Hi,

I finally got my 2ft tank, i got the Marina 60 off of ebay, the filter is a stingray.

I've heard the stingrays arent that good, i do have a tetratec 1000, which just has two sponges in, would this be ok for a tank that im hoping to have fry in? should i just cover the intake with a stocking? or is it still too powerful and they'd get stuck to it.

Also i was planning to move the female apisto cacutoide from my community 30G into it when she had fry, would it be possible to move the trio of apistos into a 2ft tank, or is it too small for 2 females?

if the tetratec/stingray filters arent appropriate what would be a good filter for mum and fry / trio and fry

thanks!
adam

Well, nothings changed, you can always ask the ones I can't answer whitey, lol. Doesn't sound too far off on the face of it but hopefully some people with direct experience will come along.

I can't remember right off all the things we sometimes disliked about the stingers, seems like maybe they came with zeolite mixed in the media and maybe I also remember worries about fish getting trapped. But hopefully others will chime in with memories they have.

A pair of apisto should be in a 75L, however if it well planted and over filtered i dont see a problem with a trio 2 females and male. The problem you may have is the females fighting if they have eggs at the same time. The tetratec have taps on them you can turn then to reduce flow if you think its too much. A stocking on the strainer get dirty real quick i would say get a corse sponge form flea bay cut a slit in the top and slide it over the intake like a sock :good:

lol, i don't do it on purpose, lol ;-)

yeah, i haven't even looked at the stingray yet, but i don't think it even looks good, seems a bit chunky with not a lot of sponge/bacteria space.

I think i'll stick to the tetratec for now and see how it goes i might cut one of the sponges in half too, make a golf ball shaped hole inside the two halves and fill it with some of my eheim bio substrate for more bacteria surface area.

cool, i'm glad I have a chance of making this work, in the 3ft tank the male leaves the females alone and the females dont fight much and have only small territories of their own, so i'm sure with lots of plants i may make this work.

I'm planning to only have a thin layer of sand, so that i can clean it easier, but without having to look at a glass bottom and the plants i have will be java fern/moss attached to wood...i'm sure i can make two nice halves for the females. If it fails i can always move the female that hasn't got eggs out into the 3 or 4 ft tank i suppose.

Do you females ever adopt other fry if they hatched around the sametime? maybe if i time it wonr and they both lay eggs i'll need to take one out and hope one wants to adopt!
