ok, so my 10g has now been bumped up to a 29g! with plenty of graduation money in my pocket (8th grd grad) i can spend quite a bit on decor and such. i have all the equipment just the other stuff is needed. But anyway, I haven't decided what I want this tank to be. I was thinking either a community or a "wet-pet". The wet-pet term comes from an old cichlid forum i was on. A wet pet is a singly kept cichlid or simular fish in a tank, by itself....this fish interacts with its human person, by letting you pet it, and generally interact with it through the glass. now i've always thought for this to be wayyyy more intersting then a community, any ideas though? as for wet pets and what not? im open to all!!!

btw, my tank has a high ph and hard water so if that has any effect, but idk. . .

Hey Trevor.

Welcome. Lots of great people on this site. I was going to suggest that if you don't get responses here, post this under the "New World Cichlids" section. I bet there are some people there who can help with the "wet-pet" idea.

only one post is needed

african cichlids tend to like high pH, but if you want to lower it, there are oscars. sometimes they like to play with ping pong balls. (ive heard this, never done it)

oscars need 75 gallon tanks so that is waay out the window

imo a nice community "out of the ordinary" might be:

hatchets for the top
pencil fish instead of tetras for the mid
rainbow fish for the mid
for the bottom maybe either a pair of stick catfish and a school of unusual cory or a uncommon or odd looking pleco that stays small

for species only maybe some true leaf fish (not the bushfish)

as for wet pets they're not really supposed to be fishandled lol but if you want to something i thnk they need more space as i cant think of anything that could be by itself in a 29 gallon that you could pet and stuff lol
they are community ones i could think of like weather loaches and stripped raphael cats but nothing you could keep by itself.

IKL though

now i think about it, one or two fancy goldfish :D

Doesn't it actually feel like being burnt to a fish if you handle/touch them?

Nice idea as it is though :)

i remember a memory from when i was three: i went to a friends house and he took a goldfish out of the tank and threw it up and it died :( . wierd long memory

well hes not gonna play fetch with it (i hope) hes more than likely going to train it to do something, hand feed it and make baby noises to it

Yes member, I'm not going to handle the fish. By touching i mean like handfeeding, stuff like that lol.
