Hello, new to the forum here! I just picked up a 29g tank, and am currently planning its contents. This will be a planted tank, 65watt lights, no co2.

This is my preliminary list:

  1. 3 Yoyo loaches
  2. 6-8 Cardinal Tetras
  3. Either a pair of Swordtails, or fancy guppies, or just one of each? (My wife is dead set on getting them - I could do a pair of each if you think the tank will accomodate them both.)
  4. 2 Cherry Shrimp (I'll cross my fingers and hope the loaches won't eat them)
I'm trying to make sure nothing will outgrow the tank in the future. Also, what order of introduction would you suggest to help them adjust to each other's presence? I appreciate all your help, and if anything sounds ridiculous, I won't be offended.

Well i don't know a great deall about sticking levels, but i would put the guppys/swordtails in first, then the shrimp, then the loach. And i would wait a couple months for the tetras, as they prefer mature tanks :) Good luck with them.

65 watts on 29 gallons is up at 2 watts/gallon, so you are stepping on the gas pedal (light), but without any gas (CO2) to feed the fast moving car (long stringy plants with not enough glucose?) (just a thought, as you may be planning another carbon source or have other plans...)

I agree with the above about introduction order after the fishless cycle. We often advise waiting even 6 months before the neons/cards.

Just to follow up with a few of your questions, it's a standard 29 gallon (30x12x18) I don't currently have another plan for co2, I don't really have anything in mind for producing more carbon. Pressurized set-ups seem way too expensive, and I doubt I can convince my wife to allow me to set up a DIY/yeast kit.
