Agreed but I would do it on a drained or mostly drained tank, just to be safe.
Yes you will also have to make sure there is no water present where you use the silicone sealer, and need to let it dry for at least 24 hrs. Moisture will prevent the silicone from sealing properly. This isn't much of a problem coz you are only using it for a brace, but you wouldn't want the seal to fail and end up with the tank bowing again.
This is a relatively easy job, your local glazer will be able to cut you some glass to size from offcuts, just make sure they grind the edges for you as you will slit your wrists everytime you put your hands in the tank
