Hi my name is Mike D. and i am a recently dicovered fish-o-holic...

I am in the process of getting a 29 gal (109.6 L) tank. And want to get a pair of kribs, some tiger barbs, and some swordtails.

And now to my question... First will this work (temperment wise), if not any changes? If it does, how many of each fish?

I think they should all work together fine. You said you wanted a pair of Kribs, so I'd get 7-10 Tiger Barbs, and then maybe 3-5 Swordies.

If you have Swordies, you'll likely get lots of fry...so you may want to just get females. You still may have some fry, because they could be pregnant when you get them, but it won't be as many as if you had a male in with them. If you do want to have a male, just get one, because they can be pretty aggressive.

Also, if the Kribs breed, watch out for aggression there, as well. Chasing other fish away from their cave and babies, and such.

I'd choose the tiger barbs OR the swordies, b/c getting enough of each to make a good school PLUS the kribs is going to overstock your tank.
