I recently purchased a 29 gallon tank along with a stand for it. I have a few questions...

1) - Substrate - Can I put about an inch of "Play Sand" (I beleive the type used in playboxes etc.)

2) - Stocking - I want to put cichlid(s) in there with a pleco catfish, I was wondering what kind of cichlid(s) and if the pleco will get attacked by it/them. (I have a rock formation that gives the pleco plenty of hiding space as well as many plants ready to put in the tank.)

Thankyou for your time

- The tank is currently empty and no water is in it - Im simply planning ahead

I used playsand and it works good for the price, for cheap sand also consider pool filter or sandblasting, I would add more then an inch myself, cichlids love to dig especialy shelldwellers so that gives them a little more maneuverability.

Shelldwellers are your best bet but there are a few other tankykians that might work. Most africans won't fit
