Over the last three weeks I've been slowly filling a brand-new 80 US gallon tank with fresh rainwater and have a small community of fish happily living there. three days ago I put a piece of green oak with some holes drilled in it to plant plants in, probably about a kilo of greenwood in the tank in all, thinking that it wouldn't react much of the water. In three days later, there was a white mist on the ends of the wood and fish are breathing hard at the surface.
I've taken it out it smells of an organic chemical shoe like linseed oil or something, the water has gone just perceptibly misty white, and tastes vary slightly of the stuff that wood smells of. Two hours later with fungus treatment + max airation fish look kindof well but water still slighty milky.
Should I change half the water with tap water that I've never done because a local tap water is not even pleasant to shower with, should I keep the rainwater even a day? What should I do?
I thought at worst I would have black water!
