Hey all,

I was wondering what other fish I could add to my small 25L tank?

I currently am In the process of lowering my Nitrite. So as soon as it reaches zero I would like to add a few more fish.

I was originally going to add a Betta to this tank but that's before I got the Guppies,

I do want a couple small bottom dwellers and maybe a few Neon Tetra's.

Any help would be appreciated :)

How many guppies do you have in the tank right now? are they all male?

if you have only male and only a few then you have options

i have a 10 gal~35 L tank and this is what i have and it looks pretty good
3 guppies (although i did make the mistake of having 2 female and 1 male so i now have about 8 fry)
9 neons
1 snail
2 emerald cories (i need to rehome these because they do need to be in a group of 5-6 but they seem to be doing fine and also they get about 3 in which is kinda big for the tank)

this looks good.

but because your tank is a bit smaller i would have the guppies and either neons OR the cories.
but if you go with cories remember that they tend to like to be in groups, and i would recommend pygmy cories these are about an 1 in so much smaller and more suitable for a small tank.

EDIT:
just saw how many guppies you have so a shoal of 7-9 neons would be good. but then no cories

I have two Guppies,

They are about a month old. I think ones male and ones female... :S

I'm not going to add fish just yet cause my Nitrite is still at 2.0ppm which isn't good...
I'm currently in the process of getting that down to 0ppm, that's when I will add the new fish.

I do want bottom dwellers that will eat up any algae that may build...

### small tank haha

I have had a thought about adding Shrimp, but not to this tank.

I have a 2ft (dunno what litre or gallon. bought it from a mate for £50 haha) which all I need is a new filter for it which is waiting to be setup. :)
Was going to get them for that tank.

Well all I need to do it wait for the Nitrite to drop and I'll be off :)

just hope the Guppies survive this period.

By the way, how often do you feed your Guppies and what do you feed them?

id go for about 6 neons then 4 pygmy corys. and maybe some shrimp if they are your sort of thing

Hi! I'm wondering, isn't that over-stocking a bit? Also, aren't neons best added later once the tank is mature? I'm new to all this so I guess we should see what someone more experienced says :)

Yeah, I wasn't going to add any fish for a while anyway...

My water shouldn't even have the Guppies in it yet :(

But they are strong! :)

if you ue the aquarium calcultor at the top of the forum it will give you gallons

general rule is 1-2 inches of adult fish per us gallon

imo corries for the tank

By the way, how often do you feed your Guppies and what do you feed them?

i feed mine mainly tropical flake then once or twice a week i will feed either bloodworms or brine shrimp, then once a week i feed some peas (de-shelled, defrosted)

do watch your stocking though, i would advise against both cories and neons in your tank only choose one or the other.
and also since you believe that you have a male and female i would watch it close because you could have fry very soon. i think i had mine for about 1-2 months before they dropped. if this does happen you might consider only guppies in this tank and even then the tank will become over stocked eventually.

:( I don't want to decide haha!

If I could I would have every fish there is in one tank...!

Yeah I was kinda worried that they may breed over stocking my tank... Maybe I would just have the Guppies in this small tank and add a few corries to help keep things clean...

I could just have the Neons in my other tank when I get round to setting it up.

that would be best, if you could hold off untill the bigger tank is set up, this would look better anyway because then you could have a much larger shoal of neons (12-15).
and you know bottom feeders arent always needed, as long as you use a gravel vac and dont overfeed then the tank wont get bad.
if you do decide to stay with just guppies then maybe a snail would be good?

Yeah I totally agree with having a bigger shoal :)

Was thinking of having the following fish in my 2ft tank.

1x Male Betta
Neon Tetra's (undecided on amount)
3x Clown Loaches

Will a snail clean the algae that will appear though?

snails will eat some algae. but there are many ways to help discourage algae growth.
the one i use is to have a lot of water flow, i have 2 filters in my tank.
but watch out for water flow if you decide to get a betta
also most fish will eat some algae.

Loaches probably shouldnt go in a tank that small. from what i understand they grow slowly but get rather large (13 inches maybe?)
because they get this big then a 2 ft tank would not be good for them.

if you are really set on a betta then you will have restrictions on what other fish you can get, although i assume that the larger tank that you have the better off that it will be.
the betta might be better for your smaller tank
neons are not recommended to go with betta

Well this is the tank I have...

Ive also added a heater obviously :)

Also added a TetraTec air pump to add a tad more oxygen to the tank.

I have some decor in the tank also which takes a bit of space... So I think I will stick with just the Guppies

I am quite set on the Betta as it was the fish i was intending to get first of all... but a few complications and now I love my Guppies :)
