Hard to say for definate without the final measurement..

But, lets say it was 36x18x18 (which may be odd), then this would be about 50 us gallons..

By looking in the fish index, some rams grow to beween 3 and 3 1/2 inches.. If we said 3 inches, then this would be 75 inches, so that would be overstocked by the beginner rule of 1 inch per US gallon..

However, im no expert, and it would depend on how overstocking of chilids is perceived or managed, and the other variables in the tank, such as nitrates and plants and other things..

It will also depend on that other dimension ;)

We need a ram expert here ;)

Cheers

No, not even close.
As a very general guide 3-5 is a more reasonable number. It depends on which type of ram you mean, m/f ratio, tankmates, and how densely planted the tank is.

Sure, if you do daily water changes and are planning on selling them soon. Otherwise you should do some reading on these guys before buying any.

thats a heck of alot of rams for any tank :/

How old are they? What size? and how long for?

If you want to keep them there forever you may be pushing it

Yes I was going to keep them forever in a well planted 36,18,12,inch tank.

Can I keep 25 rams in a tank and will they get on?

I think the answer was no when it was presumed to be a 50 gal tank, but those dimensions mean its only about 33 gallon.. so now its an even bigger no..

Rams are not shoaling fish.... I think everyone would be right in saying no. Absolutely no.

Maybe you could have a male and about 3, but think that would be it.

Rams are cichlids, cichlids are territorial, a tank that size does not have much floor space.

You will probably get a lot more enjoyment out of fewer fish, as they would behave more naturally. If you were to stick 25 in, they would all feel stressed and crowded and most would probably perish.

As said before: NO! Not at all!

I would hestiate to put anything more than one male and one female in a 55 gallon. Maybe in a 70-100 gallon I'd put two pairs, but with 33 gallon, you should definitely be keeping only ONE PAIR.. and even that's dependant on your other tank inhabitants.

I see loads of rams stuffed together in fish shops in much less than your sized tank, but really unless they are all very young they will fight constantly, especvially when two form a lifetime bond with each other.

You would probably loose quite a few fish from fighting. If it was heavily planted enough you could always have two different pairs. Otherwise it is really not worth it as you will never see thier true natural behaviour, and the fish wouldn't be happy either.

Hope whatever you do works out (aslong as it doesnt involve 25 rams :look: )

Well i am no expert but i have two rams of my own after a few died in poor water qualisty, how my rams tend to fight now and there are two in 32x17x14 and they fight then it is pushing it if you get 25 in only a slightly bigger tank.., maybe try 10-15 Anymore is pushing it.

so how much fish are you talking...........

I would say you could probably have 2 pairs in it which would be 4 rams. 2 males and 2 females
