What kinds of cichlids can be placed in a 25 gal for a nice display??

Not interested in breeding.

Tank is 12" wide x 14" tall x 30" long

Does it matter if there Africa or American cichlids?

AFRICAN: not many choices in the Lake Malami Cichlids(Bemasoni, Blue Johanni?), your better off with Lake Tanganyiken Cichlids you have many more choices the down side is they are more costly. Also there are Kribs and Buffalo Heads.

American: there are assorted Rams and Apistogramma's to choose from.

A 25 gal is not big enough for any Malawi cichlids IMO. Kribs would be fine, Tanganyikan shelldwellers or any of the dwarf NW cichlids would also work.
