Alright, so I have a nearly cycled 20 gal, fine black sand bottom with plenty of live plants; java fern, Amazon sword, Java Moss ect... Some bogwood as well.

Anyways I'm having trouble deciding on exactly I want to put in it. I am completely open to suggestions, so long as the fish aren't too difficult to keep. Colorful is also a plus.

So if you had a 20 gallon tank ready to go, what would you put in it? :)

Hmmm.... I don't know my fish and plants together very well.... so I'm not sure if this would work:

20 gallons are my favorite sizes , hehe.

I'd put:
-6 pygmy cories
-2 platys

And that's pretty much it.
But like I said, I don't know if those fish would go with plants. I don't know about plants! xD

What's the dimensions of the tank if you don't mind me asking?

If it's a standard 20 gal then I would go for something like:

2 x apistogramma (I'd go for a smaller species like Borellii)
8 x tetra (something like rummynose tetra or similar)
6 x Julii corydora

And as long as you've got a decent filter you could probably get away with a few more too. Plant wise I'd go for a simple set up of java ferns, anubias, crypts, etc. They look great but don't demand much
