i have a half-full 2.2 oz can of omega one african cichlid flakes lying around, and was wondering if i can still feed it to the fish.

or has it lost most of its nutritional value?

I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure even fish food has an expiry date.

Fish food in Australia does anyway...

Try checking for that.

I have kept food and then when you look really close there are little insects in it...I say throw it...

ROFL,
are you serious there is insects on it?
hehe.
umm. im not really sure. but if one person has witnessed little insects on her old fish food then maybe you should throw it away.. unless there is an expirey date on them?
sorry i can't help anymore with that because i have never had old fish food laying around.
xox

Some vitamins go off with time, e.g. vitamin C can oxidise, vitamin E will go off, and also fats and oils can degrade. It also depends on how it's been stored (heat, light and oxygen can all speed up deterioration). Expiry dates are normally very conservative, and even if the food is well past the date it's unlikely to be harmful, but may not contain the right balance of nutrients your fish need. I wouldn't risk it. (Unless you find insects and your fish would like bugs for lunch...)
