I added a large severum to my tank 1 week ago. He had tattered fins, looks like he was beat up in his previous home. I watched him at the LFS store close to 2 months before purchasing him to be sure the fins were not like that due to rot. Since home I have treated him with 3 doses Melafix so far to help with healing. Tonite I notice a spot on his fin underneath tail fin and one on his side fin. They look like grains of sand. Is this the beginning of Ick ? I only see the 2 spots and nothing on my other fish. Since he now will snuggle up to the front of the tank with me I see on his smallest gill, next to his mouth, a very small lump or almost looks like the gill may be flipped up a little, damaged. So small hard to see. I did see him rub against the heater once and once against a plant. Uh-oh. Should I treat for Ick or wait and see if any more spots appear ? How quickly do the spots attach ? He is eating and seems fine otherwise. Thank you !

If there is no reddining around them and the the spots are small, and it looks like ick I would go ahead and treat for it.
Pics would be V. helpful!

I agree with Cheesy. Teat for ick. If he is already flashing chances are he does have ick.

Sounds like your in a puddle of trouble. He will infect the main tank so if he was in there for long you need to treat the whole tank. For ick I use rid ick + and since I have been doing that I have not lost a fish from ick. Be sure to take the carbon out as it removes the medication. With ick I would not wait because it spreads like crazy. The sooner you start in the first stage the better the outcome. Because now he can transfer it to your main tank.

Keep your water extremely clean. This will help.
