I have decided that my 55g will be for other stuff and im going to use either a 60x25x20 130g or a 72x24x24 180g probably the 130g but we will see. Now i have decided that i would like to keep an oscar in here so how does this sound for stocking:

1x Oscar (would 2 be possible)
5x Silver dollars
5x Clown Loach
1x plec not sure which yet.

Now would i be able to add any of these:

Jack dempsy
Convict
Severum
Blue acara

Would any of these be fine and in what numbers. Sorry for all the questions if it was malawi i would be fine but fancy trying out these fish aswell.

it must be great to have 2 huge tanks at your disposal. i would say yes, add them all. the 6' would be better but i think the 5' could work as the W and H are big especially if all the fish aren't full grown so can grow up together and the only fish to be paired are the oscars. but can you keep up with the water changes this list of fish would demand and of cause very efficient filtration, or am i wrong?

if you lose the loaches (they can get to atleast 8" seen them at a foot tho) then 2 oscars would be fine, if not, then one oscar and a pair of convicts would work, or and oscar and a severum, but as they get to a simular size one would dominate the other, mmaking the others life hell, so i wouls stick witht he cons.

if you use the 180 gallon, you'll be able to have a awesome mix of fish.why not get some bichirs for the bottom such as delhezis and ornates(maybe one of each).salvinis are a stunning cichlid that would fit in well with jack dempsey, green terror, blue acara etc etc.

here is a pic of a salvini

i have salvinis and nics and they are a stunning fish.theres a lot of choice for you to choose from really.

i personally wouldnt do oscars.there are much better looking cichlids in my opinion.

i have been wnting to get a silver dollar for my invert tank to be alone, but i can't cause he wouldn't have room for a school.

i think you would be able to do what the first guy said.

i'd be interested in pics of your silver dollars :good:

In the 180g you could have the whole list below I feel.

1x Oscar
5x Silver dollars
5x Clown Loach
1x plec
1x Jack dempsy
1x Convict
1x Severum
1x Blue acara

are they not african cichlids?

and id agree with jayjay. i think you could have one of each and the group of clowns and SD's

The tank ill be using is the 60x25x20 130g so what would my best stocking be filtration is more than enough as im going to be running an fx5 on it.

1x Oscar
5x Silver dollars
5x Clown Loach
1x plec
1x Jack dempsy
1x Convict
1x Severum
1x Blue acara

would that list be going to far also if i got rid of the loaches could i add a birchir instead.

hi sam,ive got 3 salvinis and i picked up 2 of them today.they have been in a local shop for ages so i went in to buy one( £6 each) and the guy said did i want both.i said not really, how much for the 2,and he said have them both for £6.as you can imagine,i said thank you very much, bought them and left lol.as for the nics, they are pretty common.trimar sell them for approx £4.95 each.

i'd get bichir(s) instead of the loachs mark.

so would this work in the 60x25x20

1x Oscar
5x Silver dollars
2x senegal birchir
1x plec
1x Jack dempsy
1x Convict
1x Severum
1x Blue acara

Sam, they are both common fish around me, I've kept Salvini's and have been tempted by the nic's.

Mark, that should be OK, though the bichirs may suffer a little aggression. Also with the plec be careful with what species it is, with the bichir, due to the possibility of the plec sucking on the bichirs slime coat.

bichirs should be fine with that combo.bichirs can move out of the way very quickly if they want and also defend thereself.my senegal will try and wrestle a prawn from my siamese tiger fishes mouth on a regular basis.he aint at all scared lol of anyone in the tank.agree with jayjay,no plecs.ive got a rubbernose and a bristlenose and they are fine.the fish/bichirs arent interested in the rubbernose/bristlenose and the 2 plecs arent interested in the bichirs.dont add any larger plecs though.

hypsophrys nicaraguensis and the salvani cichlids are rare (in my 6 fish shops i visit, atleast),especially where i am.I was going to get a 5ft tank with 5 nicaraguen(SP?) cichlids and 5 firemouths my last b day but the guy managed to break the tank and the buckets the fish were put in overnight had falty heaters in that cooked them  ...
