Hi Guys - just 2 quick questions.

1. I've just brought a little bit of Mopani Wood and it's floating! - It's currently soaking in some water and the moment in the hope that it will suck in enough to sink - is it meant to do this?

2. For about 3 weeks now i've had trouble with my thermometer - the sucker was clear and has now turned blue and only sticks the tank for a few hours - i've washed it loads of times and still no joy - any ideas?

THANKS GUYS

My Mopani wood floats as well. Either leave it weighted down in a bucket of water for a couple of weeks so that it gets waterlogged enough to sink (although there's no guarantee how long that will take) or drill a couple of holes in the base of the wood and tie it to a piece of rock to hold it down in the tank until it naturally sinks.

The suckers can lose their flexibility. I normally position my thermometer so it's upside down, with the sucker against the glass about 1/2 an inch below the level of the substrate. The weight of the substrate on top of the sucker stops the thermometer floating away if the suction fails.

If you do that with your sucker under the substrate you just as well use a piece os someting teid to it under the substrate.
If you cant find a way to get it to stick. Get a new one about £3.
