can you put different wattage bulbs into your hood?
my 30 gal has a 20W flourescent bulb, and the whole tank is so dim, it's driving me nuts. i'm probably going to diy hood or something, so that i can get the whole thing lit up..don't have the money for nice new big fixture. but could i just buy like a..i dunno...30W or w/e they make them in, bulb? i think i read that little starter thing is 25W
just curious, cause i'm (hopefully) about to go to my lfs and they have a small 10% off sale today on stuff. so could i do this, and would it help my lighting pretty well? the hood is like..entirely flat, and has a glass pane where the light thing goes, so the sides and the front are so dim and it pisses me off.

2nd question.
since they have this sale..i've been thinking about making my 10 (hopefully soon 20) gallon tank lightly planted. so i thought maybe i'd pick up a plant or two now with this sale. but my question is should i do this, with their prices/amounts, or i was thinking about getting stuff off ebay..it seems there are some good deals..and just curious if they typically give more plants then an lfs will..then i'd rather spend the money on ebay incase i lose some, then getting one or two plants from my lfs which would probably cost more, and might die anyways.
here's my lfs and selection...i dont' really have a clue what plants i want..so suggestions would be cool..i've gathered that if i do choose to pick some up, anubias w/e and java ferns and java moss ( and other moss?) would be a safe bet. since i'm working with a small tank, i'd really like really small foreground plant also if any suggestions

sorry i made this so long, and asked for a quick reply...always do that...
