Hi, just wondering if i have to clean the glass of my heater because it is getting abit dirty, if so how do i do it?  also can I leave my aquarium light on all night and turn it off during the day because my Neon tetras seem to nip my Bettas tale at night when it is pitch black. Maybe if the light was on at night  they wouldn't nibble?

is it just the betta and neons you have? i wouldn't  have a light on during the night this will stress the fish.

Switch the heater off for ten minutes before you take it out of the water.

Hot water should clean it, but if it's hard water marks or limescale, lemon juice would be better.

Neons can be nippy; when you have the lights on or off won't make a difference. You could add some more neons, if you have the room in your tank.

How many neons do you have?

+1

Neons do well in schools 6+ so make sure they have a large school (granted the tank is big enough)

I have 6 Neon Tetras.

As well as Neons I have 4 Platy, 3 Swordtail and a male Betta.

Are you sure its the neons?

60 litre tank and the Neons are the only ones I have spotted. I'm sure they do it at night when its dark.

My neons get very inactive at night, so I'm a bit surprised by this.

Have you actually witnessed the neons attacking the betta?

bettas can actually nip there own fins, I agree with eagle, my neons are out at 10pm! very inactive at night

I have occasionally seen the Neon Tetras chasing Bettas tail but maybe the Betta does nip his own tail. My Betta doesn't look stressed, is eating well and is very active ,always swimming round my aquarium actively. I will just have to go with it and see what happens as I haven't got another tank to move fish into.
