I have river rock in my 50 gallon tank that I got out of the wash by my house. I washed and boiled it all. Its been 2 moutnhs after and my filter has calicum build up on it. Is this normal or is my rock dissolving?

Also--- at my lfs there is a discus the ize of dinner plate. Do they usally get that big??

usally rocks dont desolve but it could be leaking calcium in low amounts, if that you might wanna take it out because that could raise the pH, as the for the discus they get big yes, beautiful fish tho

thats why we call them dinner plates..... hehe i would eat or eat off one though. yuk.
but yes givent eh right amount of room and needs they get huge. i agree with Lhutch. chuck the rock. calcium = bad for tank.

pour vinegar on the rock if it fizzles dont use it :)

What is your tanks normal pH?
Have you seen an increase in kh/gh since adding the rock?

And yes Discus can get quite large (8-10 inches) depending on quality of care.

goodluck backley u can put other rocks in just approve them first 8)

ooooo .. i heard that only riverrocks and slate were safe for a tank so i throw half of my other rocks away.. well i guess i get new ones thanks....
