Hi everyone. I had a disaster a couple of weeks ago by using the wrong kind of medication in my 55 gallon planted tank. So I don't have any more plants in it.

I'm going to leave my 55 gallon unplanted for a short while because I can't afford to buy that many plants right now. To satisfy my plant fetish I am going to plant one of my ten gallon tanks. Right now it only has five neons in it, some java moss and hornwort, and a single 18" fluorescent strip. Very bare.

I was thinking about just adding a second 18" fluorescent fixture (which I already have sitting around) alongside the first one, and getting new bulbs. I probably won't have CO2 on it but might add DIY later. For substrate I have sand or soilmaster. Seachem ferts.

plants I already have to work with:

red ludwigia
rotala
HM
banana plant
java fern windelov
java fern
water sprite
vallisneria
java moss
anubias

Currently they are spread out over a couple of nanos that need to be thinned out, and a couple are survivors from the medication disaster. I'm particularly curious about the rotala, ludwigia, and HM. I feel doubtful that it would be enough light but wanted to know what others thought.

So...thoughts? Is it enough light? How much is it really equivalent to? Its so hard to get this straight with the differences in tank size and different types of bulbs.

Might not be enough Tammyliz should be ok for most on the list though, but no harm in trying I suppose, this would be a low light tank IMHO, you would probably need 3-4 watts per gallon to grow all on the list.

Thanks zig. I suspected so, but there's always wishful thinking.

I think I'll just leave those three where they are and just do the others keeping more in the line of a low light tank.
