I have just started to put together my first tank :shout: But I have a couple of questions - I bought some 4 leaf clovers (thought my tank needed all the luck it could get with me in charge  ) any way they arrived with some white wool stuff arround their feet held in place by metal clips - should I take this off? Also I think I read somewhere that you can weight plants down - is thi true and if so what is the best way to do it/weight to use?

Many thanks

Sarah

The white wool stuff arround the feet of your new plants will act as a weight. Methords similar to these weights that are attached to the new plants are quite effective. You can purchase plant weights at most lfs. There are probibly other ways of doing it though, but it is the only methord I use. Other forum members will probibly be along with further surgestions shortly.

Yeh that white sponge stuff and the metal strips (lead BTW) are to weigh the plants down, however its best to remove them once you get the plants home as they'll restrict root growth and probably just cause the end of the plant to rot. If you want to weigh the plants down just bury the end in the substrate, that should hold them.
