I'm helping a friend of mine set up a 10g tank, its been vacant for a couple of years now and shes been inspired to fill it back up and get some new fish. Well she swears on her life that they used to have angel fish that lived for 3 years and never grew more then 2", is that possible? Were they even angel fish? stunted growth. Any help would be great!

Possibly - very stunted & short lifespan - angels can live for 15 years +

well one of mine recently died, a small 1 " black angel, i had him for 6 months, he ate and ate and ate, grew fat, and never got longer or bigger... the fish i bort with him is now 6" long.
they were in a miscelanous tank so i dont know wether this is a different species ?

P. leopoldi or the longnosed angel fish dont get very big so that could have been what friend saw, but I doubt it since longnosed angels are rarely imported..

Sounds like an intestinal parasite or other GI tract problem....

Black angels do tend to grow a little slower than the rest. Good chance it was a runt, should have been culled. A way of telling is if a smaller angel in a group has eyes large for it's size, the same size as larger angels, it's probably a runt.

The 3 year old angel in the 10 was more than likely stunted. At that age they will have dollar or larger body sizes. A 3 year old angel is in the prime of it's life when properly cared for.
