Hi, i have left my tank running for 4 days now.
I will start cycling possibly in 2 days time (fish-in) I have researched alot and hope all goes well!

So......Any ideas on a community type tank setup? (fish-in cycling)

Or maybe 1 or 2 centre piece fish only? ( i will do fishless cycling with this)

Cheers!

Hi there ....

I did a fish - in cycle starting with 6 Lemon tetra which appears to have gone very well.
But I only added them after the tank had been planted and running for 10 days, having dosed the filter
with "Filter Start" every other day.

I hit Zero readings for ammonia / nitrites in my 4th week, then added my second batch of fish,
3 Rosy barbs.

Good luck - :shifty:

Why not do a fishless cycle with the community tank? Less hassle, less water changes and nicer to fish? Or is it because community fish a cheaper...

Could i Do a fishless cycle with just fish food, or do i have to get Pure Ammonia?
Pure ammonia is the most accurate way, but you can use fish food or prawn, though I'm no expert.

Edit: Noticed you're in the Uk, if you're having trouble finding ammonia, Homebase sells it

boots, homebase and ebay all do ammonia.

why intentionally harm and shorten fish lives?

I have a planted fish tank, i was told i cannot do a fishless cycle if the tank is already planted. My filter is 2nd hand and was used during the previous owners 'cycling' for just over 3 weeks. I have only had the filter for around 1 week and my zebra danio is only 3 days old. My ammonia readings are already 0 but nitrites are 0.2. I'm hoping this will have no effect on my fish, as it the filter already had alot of good bacteria on it. I put the filter in my tank within an hour.
I have read up alot on fish in cycling, so im hoping it will be ok!

I'd double check, I think you can do fishless with plants - I'm not sure though. Since plants feed on ammonia etc, I don't see how it'd harm them.

No, you're right. Don't do a fishless cycle in a planted tank. Check out the planted tank forum on this site. There is a pinned topic on cycling a planted tank.
