2 Days No Snails

So it's been two days now and my snails are still shells. When I woke up today I saw one missing and thought yey! only to find the shell floating to the top of the tank?
 
Is it safe to say that these guys are dead or is it too early still?

Smell it. If it smells nastier than anything you've ever smelled, it's dead. If not or it only has a slightly fishy smell... put it back! That's the only sure fire way I've found. Actually, you can give the shell a good shake. If the snail falls out.... it has unfortunately died. A live snail will not fall out by gravity alone.
