2 And Half Hour Journey For Fish Help

Well i live in Manchester but im in Newcastle at the min visiting friends and in manchester they dont stock tang cichlids so i was gonna see if i could buy some down here from newcastle and take they home with me the journey is 2.30hours long was wondering if this is pointless if not what should i day to ensure they stay alive

They should be absolutely fine for that amount of time, wrap the bag that the fish shop put them in, in a coat or blanket to keep the temp up a little, keep the car heater on, shouldnt cause any problems, then just acclimatise them as normal.

Just adding to what minx says; As a precaution I would also mention this to the LFS and get them to use slightly larger bags that they would normally.
This way more air is present in the bag and therefore allows for unexpected delays

Ok thanks guys i was gonna put them in a box filled with soft stuff then put them on the floor of my car with the foot heaters on

It might be a good idea to ask the lfs if they have an old styrofoam box that they could give you. They receive their shipments in them and often have a few laying around. This will insulate them from the temperature outside.

I would also suggest buying them but picking them up right before you are ready to head for home. This way they will go into a warm car and the temperature change will not be drastic.

When you arrive home, be sure to test the pH of your water and that which is in the bag. If there is more than just a little difference, gradually add your tank water to acclimate them slowly.
