I have a 4 litre hospital tank. I know this is pretty small but it does the job if I want to medicate or remove a sick fish and i don't really have room for anything much bigger.

Anyway i also have 2 African Dwarf frogs which I keep in my 50 gallon community tank. There is obviously a lot of competition for food and I have to feed the frogs with a pipette to ensure they eat. Today I decided I wanted to give them a good meal so I fished them out and put them in my hospital tank with some bloodworm... Which got me thinking, can I keep them there permanently and just move them to the community tank when I have a sick fish or is it way too small??

They aren't all that active and seem pretty comfortable in the small tank

Thanks!

This is going to be way to small for one, much less two. I believe they should be in no less than a ten gallon.

A lot of people say 1gal per frog.. so. I'd so it was big enough for one - that's it.

They would be better off in a smaller tank rather than the 50g, but upping the size to 3g ish (12x8x8) would probably be the better option.

that sounds more like it to me! :good: but if you choose to keep them with fish, the tanks size zooms up to 50ukg, or that's the apparent consensus anyway.

I have 2 frogs in a 1.5 gal. tank they have been in there almost a year . They seem to be really happy even laid eggs. As long as you do water changes you should be all right.Dwarf frogs or any frogs dont need alot of space even in nature frogs will stay in the same puddle till it dries up then they will move. This is the same with toads we have a toad at the house in summer I dont think he ever moves , hes always out front catching the flys from the light and getting bigger and bigger.

I'd guess so the frogs can get away from the fish if required, in a small tank fish could pester the frog all day.

Do not put ghost shrimp in as they carry some kind of bacteria not good for frogs, any other shrimp are ok,and mystery snail are ok. If you see them floating around at the top of the tank looks like their dead dont worry mine gave me a start when I first had them lol. They Float alot like their sunbathing
Dunno where you heard that about the ghost shrimp, but it's not true - I've known lots of people to keep ADF's with various shrimp including species referred to as 'ghost shrimp'. If you had a problem it was either completely unrelated to the shrimp (my guess), or you got your shrimp from a bad source and they came in with some kind of pathogen that can effect frogs. It has nothing to do with the species though...

Well I decided that this situation was a good excuse to buy a new tank. The 2 frogs are happily living in a 30 litre. thanks!

Careful, you might fall victim to MTS - that contagious disease, Multiple Tank Syndrome! :p

Ha ha, I think i already have it... 3 tanks at the moment and I would have kept my old tank as well if my boyfriend hadn't threatened him or the tank ;) although it was a pretty tough choice!
