Hi guys and gals.

I've not posted on here for a couple of weeks as i've been working away but in this time i've been given a 2.5ft tank from my sister for my b'day. Anyhows, it's got some fish in it (5 barbs, female beta, molly, 5 neon tetras, and a couple of others). Antway, i've been keeping fish for a few months now and am looking to get something different. I'm going to have a look on the internet and do some research, but would just like some advice from you guys. (Always good getting different opinions). I'm limited by the size of the tank but some ideas would be great. This is the rough size of the tank 80cm long x 35cm wide x 45cm high.;

cheers

Hi, again. I've had a look at killifish. Would these be suitable for the tank i have. Cheers.

I myself prefer loaches or gouramis. Cichilds are also a great fish ,but they will attack and kill many other species.

So ur tank is about 33 gallon or 126 litres , and u have fairly active fish. I'm not sure if a betta in there would be suitable ... and unless your tank is well planted the barbs will bully the tetras.
What are the couple others?

I may have misinterpreted it but are you getting rid of the fish or keeping them?

If ur keeping them ... well ur tank seems fully stocked, possibly overstocked.
and if u are removing them
well then ... u have alot of options.

hope that helps :good:

I'm definatley thinking of changing the fish in it. I want something a bit different but as yet i've not decided. Killifish look good, but not sure. I'm also thinking about trying sand instead of gravel.

what fish are u planning to remove because rly that will decide the fish that will be added.
if u r planning of removing any fish .. then i say the female betta and possibly the molly as there's only one and since its slow the barbs will take advantage.
its rly up to you ... the more you remove the more option ... but then again theres always an attachment towards your own fish.

btw what barbs do u have?

o and going sand instead of gravel is definately the way to go :good:

I'm actually of thinking of removing most of the fish and putting them in my other tank or rehoming them. So i'm thinking of a species tank (if it's big enough).

Make sure that if you get some barbs that you put them in with short finned fish. Barbs are known to nip at fins.

well you have many options really, planted talk with maybe dwarf cichlids or gouramis and tetras and maybe cordoras is good, its too small for things like large predators and stuff like malawi cichlid species tank i believe, maybe shelldwellers or maybe something like a small oddball tank like puffers? could go coldwater even, flat pebble surface, get some powerheads and make a strong current, and then get some hillstream loaches and maybe some white cloud mountain minnows or something. There are many different options really.

I wouldnt say the tank is currently over stocked personally but alot of the options i have given would require rehoming your current fish i guess, you could just keep your fish and maybe add a pair of dwarf cichlids or something and maybe get rid of your female better, you could put it in like a 5 gallon tank or something if u had the space, i dont think female bettas are as bad as males though so you might be alright leaving it in the tank but im no expert on that. Perhaps would lose the molly as well but im not a massive fan of common livebearing fish so im biased i guess. Hope this helped.

Planted tank. Sounds good!!! I'm going to look into it. I really like the look of them. I'm going to look into some co2 units. Cost and everything. Cheers for the advice :good:
