Yes, I finally got around to making some. The lids are also made of the plastic canvas that I used to make the dividers. I'm going to get some glass cut for the lids soon.
I have the exact same setup as you do, minus the heater.
How do you like the craft canvas as a divider? I've been having problems with mine. Not the canvas itself, but the two bettas in it [Captain Morgan and Mai Tai] have been beating on each other. At first C.M. bit chunks of Mai Tai's tail off through the divider, and once he started healing, Mai Tai took a good amount off of Captain Morgan's tail. ..I've never heard anyone else having the same problem with the craft canvas as the holes are so small, so I was wondering how your bettas were acting.
Alpha & Omega haven't even noticed each other through the plastic canvas. The two girls in the second 2.5g like flaring through the canvas, but I haven't had any problems with them. That's odd that your bettas are nipping each other through it.
They're the first ones I've had that do that.. I thought of trading one of them for another male I have, but he panics in any tank larger than 1/2 a gallon. It's sad really, but he's so much happier in his little tank. I don't think tossing him into a divided 2.5 would really help.
Y'know, at Petsmart [if you have one] carries the light strip and the hood for 2.5 gallon tanks. Try going to Petsmart's Website and looking under lighting and hoods. I know they carry them at the Petsmart by me. It's a lot easier than getting glass cut and everything. I'm just using the canvas top with a regular light because I'm not too concerned about plants in this tank, but I'd thought about it before and planned to get the hood from Petsmart. It's pretty cheap, if I remember correctly.
I've got a betta like yours. I got him comfortable in a 1g tank, but he prefers the 0.75g vase I have.
We don't have any Petsmarts around here, so I ordered from the site. They're being shipped to a friend's place (she lives in the states), and she's bringing them up when she comes to visit in a month or so. It cost around $30 canadian for the 2 light strips. I didn't see any 12" hoods, but the 12" light strips need to rest on glass. My neighbour works with glass, so he'll probably cut me some free of charge.
The one in the first tank isn't actually a plakat, she's a big CT. But she is a beauty, isn't she? She and her sister (also in the tank) both have MG in them, but this one has quite a bit of red in her. The other one definitely shows MG. Which reminds me, I still need names for them. Any ideas?
As for plants... whatever my lfs has on sale at the time.
