I think you should ask in the planted tanks section concerning which plants would suit your tank. I personaly recently discover hygrophila polysperma which is amazingly easy to grow and does so at a remarkable rate but it seems it's illegal in the US lol

People in fish stores here know nothing about fish or plants, does anyone have any suggestions for a 2.5 gallon plantwise with a dwarf puffer?

Java moss or fern is always a good choice, as is hornwort. All are easy to keep alive and grow

I think the main reason a 5 gallon is recommended for dwarf puffers is because they are relatively sensitive to water quality and it's easier to maintain in a 5 gallon, but as long as you keep up with your water changes there's no reason you can't keep one in a 2.5, in my opinion. My puffer only uses half of her 5 gallon, really.

EDIT: I haven't seen anyone mention it, but if you find a place to put another one of those 2.5 gallons you could have one ADF and a betta in one, that always makes a cute little tank

The ADF will be ok by itself?

Oh and do I need special lighting for the plants?

Yeah, one ADF would be fine. The plants I suggested are all low-light, so minimal lighting should be fine :)

I can't always trust what I look up on google, but I can trust the people on this site.

I read them all, I dont understand the whole Co2 thing. This would be my first time with plants-ever.
