I am thinking of trying to plant my bettas 2.5 gal tank, it is a regular rectangular tank. I would want to plant it with lots of java moss and mabey some dwarf hairgrass if I have enough light. The tank will have a filter, but no CO2. What would be the suggested amount of light on a tank this size?

A 10W would be fine. There are some good clip-on lights on ebay. Even though you aren't dosing CO2 I really think Seachem Flourish Excel will help you plants alot.
