I know they say the minimum is male:female 1:2 but better if its 1:3 or 1:4. But would it be that bad if the ratio was 2:3? So like if you had 4 male guppies you would have 6 female guppies or if you had 6 males then you would have 9 females. I'm NOT thinking of doing this but has anyone else done it? Would it work at all? I'm just really curious about this and I do want to get more guppies when I upgrade to a larger tank so I just want to learn more, thanks.

it been done obvisouly, i dont think a 2 to 3 ratio is good though because theres not enough females to spread out the eventual agression unless you had say like 30 guppies and a 12 18 thing, the larger the group the less agreesion but its best to stick with the 1 2 1 3 ratio.

ncguppy830 mentioned that he don't think a 2 to 3 c is good because there is not enough females to spread out the eventual aggression obviously he as not kept them  in any other ratio,

Liv15 the answer to your question is it is possible to keep guppy's in the way that you say

nice way to explain fish48

and yes ive kept other ratios, ive kept humdreds together obvisuoly the ratio cant be maintained then, i dont reccomend it because the usally ratio is more surefire for reducing agreesion, in such a large group its possible.

in my 37 gallon I has aboot a 10 male to 1 female ratio..

let's just say she's a popular girl at the dance...

Wow she must be one tough female! Just make sure she doesn't get stressed as it will weaken her immune system.

I have a spare 30L tank and was thinking I would either put guppies in there or a betta. If I had guppies in there I would only have females and move over a male from main tank to breed and partition the 30L for the fry. But dunno, I kinda want a betta but I like the idea of breeding guppies :/ tough choice although I do have a little viv I could keep the betta in with a small filter & heater. It's kinda hard to stop at one tank innit?

id keep the betta, for guppy breeding(which i dont reccomend unless you have a million new homes for them) you could do a colony in a 20 gallon .

It’s not good to keep a ratio of 1 -10, males, It’s Best to keep an eye on the situation

Different ratios can be maintained the more livebearers you keep the less females needed if you have 4 pares or more it can also level out aggression so livebearers can be kept in pares or odd numbers as long as long as they are kept in a large group of 8 or more you will also find
The larger the number of males the less interested they become in the females what tends to happen is that the males spend most of the time competing with each other over females
