2 1/2 Gallon, What To Do?

a small 24x12x12 is not a large tank by any means its extremely small and as for stocking is limited so we werent bashing small tanks as you say but what i was saying is why go out and get a 2.5g tank which can only comfortably hold air when for not much more you can get a 60ltr tank and have a better choice of options.

"can only comfortably hold air"
"get flowers"

Bettas are labryinth fish, and get most of their oxygen from the air. African Dwarf Frogs are amphibions and do not posess gills. Apple Snails have a little tube they use to breathe air above the water line and frequently go to the surface, even in my 20g, to fill up.

It's a personal choice, to go with these small tanks, and it's a different type of fish keeping.

I do know i keep a betta and 3 adf`s in a 9g hex i would not want to keep a netta in anything less than a 5g

There are lots of people on this forum though that keep their bettas in 1g bowls, and a couple who keep them in 1/2g bowls.

The betta home size argument is a long, old one, with no new points to bring up.

I want to set this tank on my desk, I already have 2 20's, a 55, and a 100.

The killifish pair sounds good, and water changes wouldn't bother me considering the effort it would take to do one on such a small tank.

I would think 4 neon's would do fine in the tank.

thanks for the help

Im not really concerned for the pleasure in which an owner recieves from having a small tank i'm more concerned about the pleasure of the fish which are living in it.

it would be happier in my rectangle 2.5 gallon tank than the 4"x4" in box they keep them in at the store

i don't see why a betta wouldn't do fine in this 2.5 gallon tank

i have three small tanks, a 2.5g and two 3.5g 's.

i use one as a planted killi tank - 3.5g - 12"x8"x8"

another to bring up killi fry - 3.5g - 12"x8"x8"

and the other is currently empty but i might use it for something soon - 2.5g - 12"x8"x6"

personally i like my little tanks, i have large tanks and small tanks and i like the small tanks as i can have more of them and put them in more spaces etc.

:good:

it's a 12"x8"x6" i think, 12"x8"x8" makes 3.5g.

i would go with the betta option.

:good:

Well that depends - 3.5 US gallon = 2.5 UK gallons (very roughly). Quite important to know what we are talking about here! 2,5 UK (imperial gallons) is indeed 12X8X8 - and its actually 2.63 gallons (according to one calculator I just used)

The good thing about work/office tanks is that you can be sure they will get a water change. Friday afternoon, and water changing your fish is way more enticing than work. Not quite the same situation at home!!!!!!!

I have no problems about a fish being in a small tank - assuming it is the right kind of fish. Killis often live in small puddles - or tyre tracks. Bettas habitats are often are so vegetation choked they can't get far anyway.

How about Betta brownorum, rutilans or something else tiny

I always use bigger tanks (with temporary exceptions) because tank maintenance becomes 100 times easier and an unseen problem has so much longer before it gets serious....

I do feel sorry for fish that spend their entire lives with no chance to breed. Maybe its just me, but I regard it as an animals right. All my fish are bought with the intention of breeding, and that is why I am not suggesting you get 1 male betta. Obviously quite a few have not bred for me, but thats another story

Im a bit lost as to why people buy such small tanks it baffles me for £60 you can get a 60l 16G tanks already set up with lights filter and heater i have just bought one for my wife so why buy such small tanks i dont belive they are really that much cheaper.

Yeah, your very right.

I ended up spending more on my 11 gallon than the juwel rekord 60!

The reason? I wanted the challenge of setting up an aquarium, rather than having to just fill it up with water and cycle it.

I researched the best companies etc, and bought their equipment, and am more proud of the setup.

Another reason is, i wanted different dimentions than a juwel rekord, i needed a specific dimentionned tank.

Those might influence people on getting a small tank. Because of space problems, and customised tanks are funner imo!

I would go betta and some small type shrimp, nothing expensive though incase the betta gets the munchies...

sorry 4ftguppy, i think most people use U.S gallongs though.

if were talking UK gallons definetly go with killi's.

:good:

id go with 2 red claw or fiddler crabs.and put in 1 plant so they can climb to da top and act like king kong!!!!!!!!!or thats what mine did.

I keep a betta fish in a minbow 2.5 (US) gallon tank, which I did complete water changes on every 4 ish days, more or less when ever it needed it. The betta in it lived a long happy life and just passed away recently, that tank at the moment is houseing some newly hatched triops. So id say go for the betta, there are some really magnificant looking ones
