2 1/2 Gallon, What To Do?

2.5 g is 8x8x12 yes?

Standard size for a pair of (small) killifish. You'll need to do water changes though, obviously - a little uneaten food can pollute a small tank a lot quicker than a big one.

How about a pair of Nothobranchius (see my avatar - nothobranchius rachovii), Aphyosemion

I actually use 6g as my standard size, but generally have 2-3 pairs in it - 2.5 g means too much water changing in multiple tanks

it's a 12"x8"x6" i think, 12"x8"x8" makes 3.5g.

i would go with the betta option.

:good:

okay lets get the facts straight 2.5 gallons does have a few options snails shrimp crabs and bettas are all good options you could have 3 endlers persoanly i would heavily plant the tank and have a beutiful male betta in there

by putting a flower on his post pieman was saying you should just use it as a vase i think
:good:

Bar breeders and sellers fish should have a much larger tank than that, ok they don't need the room but it's a better life for them, like living in your house is better than living in your cupboard.

Im a bit lost as to why people buy such small tanks it baffles me for £60 you can get a 60l 16G tanks already set up with lights filter and heater i have just bought one for my wife so why buy such small tanks i dont belive they are really that much cheaper.

They're cheaper if you buy them 2nd hand.

2.5g isn't enough room for crabs, crabs need about 1' crawl space and access to open air.

2.5g is perfect for a single betta, or a single ADF, or a single Apple Snail, or Endlers. There's another fish who can fit in there, but I can't remember his name and I know he tends to be harder to find.

You can get away with a combination of the fish I listed, but you have to be diligent about the water changes, and I wouldn't add more than 2 living things in there. I would throughally research your options and know their needs before buying any of them.

If you look into nonfish options, you might be able to get away with a single tarantula, but I think most of them need at least 5g sized tanks.

Lol and £60 tanks will be cheaper if you bought them 2nd hand.

Some people don't understand do they?

You wouldn't buy a flight to france with an airline whos planes only have one wing just because their cheaper.
Small tanks come with their problems.

I would prefer to see less bashing of small tanks. Properly stocked, with realistic expectations, a small tank owner can get quite a bit of enjoyment out of it.

I bought all my small tanks specifically for bettas, and I enjoy them.

A small second hand tank is significantly cheaper than a large second hand tank.

Not everyone wants a huge community tank, you know.

a small 24x12x12 is not a large tank by any means its extremely small and as for stocking is limited so we werent bashing small tanks as you say but what i was saying is why go out and get a 2.5g tank which can only comfortably hold air when for not much more you can get a 60ltr tank and have a better choice of options.

Jayjay mentioned it was for a desk. 60L is a bit too big for that. I would say a betta would be ok in a 2.5G.

I know that obviously a bigger tank is always better, but its not real practical putting something like a betta (small, not too much waste, not very active) in a huge tank.

Some people compare it to living in a closet in your house. with 60L, that would be like 1 person living in a high rise hotel by themselves.
