had this little fella for 2 weeks. what do ya all think of him?

He's amazing, but is that an RBS I see behind him? :/

i was thinking the same thing, the RTBS red tail black shark will nip and potentionaly kill the betta.

edit: it looks like it could also be a SAE

the fish behind the betta is a red fin shark. i was told at pets at home that they would be ok in the same tank and seem to be getting on well. the shark doesnt bother any of the other fish in the tank.

i have :

2 x albino cory cats
5 x neon tetra's
2 x dwarf gouramis
1 x betta
1 x bed fin shark

are there any compatabilty issues with the fish that are in my tank?

I personally don't know much about the sharks, so can't comment on that - but I'm sure I've read that that's a bad match. Possibly a bad match with the gourami's, but again, I'm not sure on them.
The tetra's are likely to try and make a nice lunch out of the betta's fins, which could cause his fins to fall off and for him to get a bad case of fin rot. And the betta is likely to at one point, make a nice lunch out of the tetra's altogether.

Can't see much bother between the Betta and the cory's, though.

He is a really lovely boy. I wouldn't trust anything they say in pets@home it's very rare that you will find someone who genuinely knows what they are on about. I would keep an eye on the fishies you have in your tank as some of them are not compatible like the red shark (who will also get quite large), the tetras (nippy-and your beautiful betta's fins will be all tatty) and the gouramis as they share the same part of the tank and they can be aggressive little monkies.

Corys are generally great with bettas as they are non-agressive and *usually* occupy the lower area of the tank although mine swim all over the place!

There's a good sticky in the pinned area about betta tankmates, does anyone have links?

by the way he has lovely colours, a good find in Pets @ Home congrats on your little fella! :good:

i love your betta he is stunning but i never go to pets at home i hate it they are dreadful were i am they told me i could have african cichlids with bettas and all sorts :S they are mad in my opinion but awsome betta love it

same here i tend to take pets at homes addvise very lightly. i bought some plants from there and they started to die after 3 weeks so went and asked them for advise on what to do and the guy that was there said "the plants only last about a month anyway" and didnt say anything about plant food or co2 even though they sell it in the shop.

im trying to get a better picture of my betta cuz the coloring in the pic is a bit bright. he's got a blue/turquoise body that shimmers in the light and has red rins with a turquoise streak. i'll post a new pic as soon as he gets over his camera shyness.

how big is the tank?
the "red fin shark" its really a RTB red tail black shark. will nip at your betta for sure, the tetras will also.
the gouramis are top dwellers like bettas and will fight them for the tank space.
honestly your best option is to get the betta his own 5-10g. otherwise he might be picked on and have his awsome fins ripped or torn up.
