$18 discus! canadian! omg

No... they will probably die. Besides $18 is not that amazing. How big are they and what strain? I hope you won't do the impulsive thing you did with the clown loaches of buying abunch of fish and stuffing them in a small tank just cause they are cheap. Also you don't want to infect your other fish. Believe me it's not worth it. Ick is your worse enemy and once it gets introduced into your tank you will want to kill yourself.

If you have the space and are willing to meet their requirements (biweekly water changes, temp, running the tank around them etc) then i say go for it!

Ick is IMO the one of the easiest things to cure, and once you kill it, unless you introduce it into your tank again, its gone forever.

Discus are not easy to keep when they are well, sick ones would be a real challenge. Make sure you have the proper water parameters as far as hardness & ph for keeping discus before you even consider spending $18. That is not a bad price, but not great.

Besides $18 is not that amazing

$18 Canadian is about $12 American (maybe a little less). That sounds like a realy good deal to me .
Although I would also say you should not get them, none of the tanks listed in your signature could handle a group (which, under the diseased circumstances, would be required).
If you go ahead and decide to buy them, make sure the LFS feeds the discus in front of you, because if they don't eat (as I suspect they wont) you will have an almost imposable time trying to get them to eat and cure them. Also, stay away from any of them that have bigger eyes than normal, this indicates malnutrition and poor growth, and it will most likely not survive.

kevin007 do you live in toronto?? and could this lfs be the pj's at yorkdale?? cause if it is I wouldn't get in, they are in pretty bad shape and I talk to one of the staff and he said that they rarely change the water on the discus tank.. . If it is sick then I wouldn't bother wasting $18 dollars for it, that's why they are selling it that cheap cause it probably wouldn't stay alive for very long and they wanna get rid of their stock.....

and dav what da hell do u mean impulse buy? i did it for a number of reasons:

1. i can also "quarintine the clowns

2. i stated i was gonna get a 55 gallon tank by the end of that month and i did with pics as proof (unlike someone..)

3. my clown never got ick, i got them from yorkdale's pj's maybe it was because they are new stock and didn't get the chance to suffer their bad fish keeping skills.but even if they do get ick, i beleive i can cure em, discus, i dunno.

4. they were also on super good price $4 ea!

tell me would anyone buy the clowns if you were in this situation:

clowns were $4 each, you are getting a 55 gallon tank ready and cycled by the end of this month and you have a spare 10 gallon to keep them in to quarentine AND to last 1 week to see if they last, guess what? they all survived..but someone got 2 out of 3 clown loachs DEAD and only keeps a discus BY ITSELF

enough said and i will not get the discus even tho i might be able to cure it

EDIT: wait a second..i rmb the price tag said : as advertised, so i can go to another one and get it for that price?

Whatever the reason, I still wouldn't put 5 clown loaches in a 10 gallon for a month. A week maybe. You got lucky with them, as they were not diseased stock like mine (stupid petco). I must say considering they all survived you did a good job with them, congrats. And I did not brag about the price of my discus, I still think $20.00 is a bit steep, even for HEALTHY discus.

it wasn't easy keeping 5 clown loach with 2 corys in a 10 gallon for 2 week (yes 2 weeks not 1 month) i had to do water change every 2 days *shivers* i'll probably have to do that too for a discus?

Hehe... I don't. ) I do it once a week, but I'm planning to up it to once every 3 days.

Discus at my lfs are $59.99 each and they're the only lfs for a couple of hours that carries them. They would make me a deal and let me have 2 smaller ones for $50ea, but that's the best they can do. They buy their discus small and then grow them out right there in the store in one of their display tanks. The lfs employee even gets the discus to eat bloodworms right out of his fingers!

yea, probably. I know my LFS had two beautiful discus for $28 american if I remember correctly. either $28 or $38.....

I live in California too, where in the HECK do you find discus that are $20? And you think that's expensive!?!?!? Geeze, they are like $40-50 here in central CA.
