oohh i thought it was in the ceiling! can you take the light fixture off the tank with spider still inside? take it outside or something...

Try to move the fizture off of the tank keeping it as far away from you as possible. Thick leather gloves would be great with a long sleeve shirt on rubber banded around the gloves( im sure you dont want him crawling up your arm. and shoot the little bastard with some brake clean, he will shrivel up instantly we had a problem with black widows in my automotive college classes, and that seemed to take care of em'. hope this helps. Its all i got :good:

discoonect electrics, drop the lighting in the water (assuming your tubes are waterproof) - instant live fish food

Won't some one come out who knows about these spidars and remove it for you.

If you was in the uk all we would of done was phone the rspca, and hide till they came.

if that were me i would be screaming "ad come quick, big f**k off spider in the tank, come and get it"

and then hide until he has showed me that he has killed it.

So I was browsing TTF when I saw something moving from the corner of my eye. I turned just in time to see this huuuuge black widow spider letting itself inside the lightfixture via one of the holes.

Instinctively, I put cellotape on the holes to trap it. Now I'm looking at it, and I know I can't keep the cello on there for long. How long will it take for the spider to starve off and die? I'm quite clumsy, I wouldn't dare try to shake the spider out, specially since it's venomous. With my luck, it would probably land on me anyways

Any solutions???

MY GOD! makes me feel glad I live in England where we don't have anything like this!

Me too scared of big spiders, but I wouldn't kill it then again wouldn't know what to do, as you would not get me anywhere near it.

Ha ha ha ha ha - the old Black Widow scuttling inside the light decoy trick. They're crafty little buggers - travel around in pairs, making sure you see one of them, meaning that the other one gets to run wild around your house - drinking all your beer before whipping off the cellotape to release Clyde.
