So I currently now have a single betta in my aquarium! My tank was fully cycled with 7 fish living in there so I'm guessing my bacteria is going to die back so I shall have to restock slowly!! Any ideas on what would live happily in 15 gallons with my betta

Oh let him have his castle! I bet he loves it.

What are the dimensions of this tank?

I agree! He will be one happy Betta....
yes.gif

But if you really want tank mates how about a group of cories?

Yea I did think that but my tank looks bare especially with him hiding most of the time it's 22 inches long 16 high and 14 wide! I was thinking perhaps 3 Platies perhaps!

A snail? Ever seen Sulawesi Snails?

Ghost Shrimp?

I don't think 3 Platies will be happy in such tight quarters! At first I was thinking Kuhli Loaches, but a 15 gallon is not much longer than a 10 gallon, so that won't work either!

I had 40 litre tank with one betta also thought the tank looked bare so I added 3 platies and 5 tetras. the platies grew to large for the tank so have now
bought a 160 litre tank. I would add 5 tetras and two dwarf corydoras not platies

A group of around 6 small tetras, or cories would look nice.  Tetras swim all around the tank, so it wouldn't look as bare.  I've heard cories will swim around most of the lower half of the tank, occasionally swimming to the surface.

Is that your Betta in your picture?  He's beautiful! :)

Thanks for the advice! Did think of tetras actually just wasn't sure if they'd suit because have heard they can be nippy! Thanks again for the advice was perhaps thinking Also of just some bottom dwellers!

My sister had Tetras with her Betta, and they weren't nippy as far as we could tell.  She thought they were, but I think the Betta's fin loss was due to poor water quality.  If you do choose Tetras just keep an eye on them to make sure they're not nipping.

Also when you're adding tank mates with Bettas it's a good idea to take the Betta out, move things around, then add the tank mates, and the Betta back in.  That way the Betta won't recognize the tank as it's territory, and will be less aggressive towards any tank mates.

ok, it isnt reccomended to house bettas in community settings because of the fact that they can easily eat the other fishes food and become bloated ETC
As for tetras, the only species that could really be in that tank size would be  from the top of my head, emepror or ember tetras. Now, other memebers have suggested dwarf cory species and i agree with them, try a group of 6 pygmy cories.
