So i have a large tank, but it is filled with non-aggressive freshwater fish. Cichlids seem really cool to me, and i was wondering if i could keep any species in a 15gal. maybe just one? maybe a small school? I dont know much, thanks for the help

I think the closest things you could get would be shell dwellers, and even then I'm not sure if they'd fit in with community fish, I don't know much about them in general, but a lot of old world cichlids like higher pH than community fish can tolerate

Bolivian rams could work, but 15 gallons seems a bit small for them

Onidrase I think the OP is saying that their big tank is full of community fish and they have a second tank of 15 gallons that they want to keep Cichlids in. Personally I think 15 gallons is far too small to keep Cichlids, I wouldn't house them in anything less than 55 and that's pushing it!

not even shell dwellers? Those guys are tiny!

tiny shell dwellers sound nice to me

i don't get this whole "its got be 55gal or more". you can keep dwarf tangs in a 15gal (granted one type and prob a shell dweller, although you may get a way with a pair of julies if they matched).

you can keep dwaft mbuna in a 30gal if you know what you are going.

i'm realistic to understand there are certain minimum tank sizes but to say i would not put any african cichlid in nothing more than a 55 is ott

Its not OTT its an opinion, thats why I said "I wouldnt" rather than "You shouldnt". The OP is free to do as they wish, as is everyone.

Would you really want to keep mbuna in a 30G though? Shell dwellers will be fine, they do prefer a good size foot print mind you.
