I think that one of my males had his tail cut into the spade shape before I got him. Cuz when I first got him his tail was that shape.
If his tail wasn't torn in this picture, you could see what I mean...that's what he looked like when I first got him.

And this is him now (sorry the picture sucks, he's not in a tank anymore, he's in a big rubbermaid thing. but the shape of his tail is all I'm trying to show you so it's good enough).

He definately doesn't look spade any more. He looks VT now. But when I first got him... He looked spade to me.

The true spade tails are a lot more defined then that.. it's probably a spade/veil.. like someone already said.

It was super thick, and super nice... never damaged a female while spawning.. too bad I deleted all my old pics.

if it were a male, couldn't it be a young VT, and just not have fully grown out? and if it's a female, then it has exceptionally long finnage, which might make it APPEAR to be a young male...?

I think I can see the ovipositor or whatever it's called..

I've had a female or 2 like that.. really big and long, with the spade-ish tail.
