I am a bad man............I cycled with fishes.........

Platys......hardy little blighters.........you think you are being gentle balancing the bioload.........and then they go and give you 40 or so fry...... :hey:

Just over 20 survived hidden (the rest "dissapeared" ).

But Finally...........the tank has cycled..........just under 5 weeks and we are there.

Things need to grow a little more in this tank, and I have now reviewed the lighting (there were two tiny low-voltage 20 watt spotlights about 14 inches above the top of the water) to give the plants a better chance, there is now a 5 ft strip light in the alcove above. Aside from that..........watch this space..........

Well, this is the tank in place in the kitchen (excuse the mess   )

A little closer, it really does fit well in the space:

EDIT for a p.s..............any suggestions on what to do with the heater??? flippin thing catches my eye whenever I look at the tank...........

You could move the heater behind some plants or put plants in front of it and just give the plants time. :)

As for mess, that is NOT A MESS. Very nice clean kitchen. :)

I really like the tank, it is a really cool concept.

great idea for a set-up, i would put the heater behind the filter so you cant see it at all. Once again great set-up

Edit: I dont know if you have a cover, i cant see one, Get one to stop nasty pollutants from the air (sprays and stuff) getting in and to stop your little fishies jumping out.

Nice tank although I have to say I think you will most likely get algae problems with it being in the window. ;)

WOW!! That is so friggin' awesome!! :hyper:

I would love to have one in my kitchen so I can see the fishies while I cook and wash dishes, especial washing the dishes! :fun: That's so cool, great job!!!!! :flex: :kana:

Oh I also like your kitchen, nice and big!

Yeah, they do that :p

What mess? -_- T' ain't no mess there... You should see my kitchen  On second thought, no you shouldn't  What I do have for a kitchen (counters? what are counters?) is usually messy, 'cause there's nowhere to put anything. Anyway, I digress. This is a thread about your fish tank, not about my kitchen...

Very nice  If I had that right by my sink, I think I'd be a lot more motivated to do dishes! :p Stare at fishies while washing dishes...how great :)

any suggestions on what to do with the heater???
For starters, I'd put it so it's either vertical or horizontal, not at an angle. If you put it horizontal, try putting it down towards the bottom some. If you put it vertical, try moving it to one end of the tank or the other so it's not in the middle of your field of view. After the plants grow up, they may hide it more, too, especially if you have tall plants or if you put the heater horizontal.

Awesome tank, nice pictures, cute fishies ('specially that cute little Bristlenose  )! Thanks for sharing!

Yor tank has Matured Nicely Since Setting it Up.

I remember when you posted pix setting it up.
I have exactly the same Window Ledge size in the kitchen. If only I could Convince Mum to Have 1 there.

Again Excellent Concept and Lovely Pix.

Yeah, it does look really nice, but like someone else said, I don't envy the algae problem you're going to have especially come summer!!! :D
Cool tank though!! :kewlpics:
