How many fish and what are the best fish to have for a beginner?

I duno if i was right about how many litres it holds beofre.

I would try and find/work out how many litres or gallons the tank holds first.

google it on how to work ot dimensions, but im certain you will need the depth, height and length of the tank to work this out.

Yeah you can google water volume calculator and all you have to do is enter the width, height and depth of the tank, it'll do the rest.

How tall of a tank?

If it's 12 inches tall... 14 X 9 X 12 = 1512 cubic inches. Dived by 231 for gallons, so it would be 6.54 gallons.

Small tank; I'd recommend a betta OR 5-6 guppies.

Is a dwarf puffer anything like dwarf gouami.

Also in the future i want a big tank, what sort of price would one for about 3-4 bigger fish like bettas and gouamis (Spelling) and maybe 15 smaller fish, tetras, small loaches, mollies etc

My plakat betta is about 2.5" and I bought him for $3. Bettas come in a variety of colors with different fin types. They shouldn't be expensive at your LFS, but a show betta does fetch much more money. Check out the betta forum for much more info and pictures.

The biggest you'll see a betta is 3 inches (male or female)

Oh man I had a dwarf puffer and that little guy killed her two buddies in a week!

this should be helpful. Some of those fish will not be suitable but the smallest should be ok.

If your looking for a larger tank try to find it second hand. If you spend some time looking chances are good you'll find one for free or atleast very cheap

Yeh bettas look nice but they are agressive to smaller fish are they not?
