14 Days Later

Hi, :)

Not to sound disbelieving but...14 days is pretty quick for a tank to fully cycle. As far as I can tell from previous posts on here it takes 4 - 6 weeks minimum for a tank to fishless cycle properly.

have you double checked your water readings?

Did you use anything (media from another tank/filter) to speed up the process?

As i say, I don't doubt you but it would be a shame to buy a host of new fish just to see them get ammonia poisoning and die. Would be pretty upsetting for the kids too. :/

Double checked everything. I did use Seachem Stability (bacteria additive) during the cycle. I added 20 ml initially and then 10 ml each day during the cycle except for the last 4 days. The stuff worked well.

I didn't have any used gravel, filter, etc available to me. The only other person I knew with a tank had one that was not very healthy.

:band:

My 55 gallon took 2 weeks, I couldn't believe how fast that one got done.

Good Luck with the new tank !!! :D

I just completed my cycle last night :hyper: ... with fish 5 weeks ... next time NO FISH :sly: .. my pH is 8.0 ... kH about 180 ppm ... gH just above 300 ppm. Interestingly I have a .30 ppm Copper in the tanks since I had to treat foe Ich twice in the cycle ... desoite the copper everything still cycled. Temps 78 - 86 range ... elavated for Ich treatment.

Good Day ... B)

Consider yourself lucky, im on day 41 and still goin, cant even get my ammonia to get to 0. Its a little ridiculous, maybe its cuz its a big tank i dunno. At first i added a little too much ammonia so that culd be holding me back. Well GL on the new tank

The kids and I have been to the LFS and back and now have a stocked tank. All water tests are good and I have oodles of bacteria. Bob the Betta :D seems quite animated swimming around in a 39 gallon tank after escaping from his plastic cup. They are quite excited to have fish as am I. The last time I had kept fish was 22 years ago when I had a Black Pirahna. The rest of the inhabitants should be listed below in my signature. When I figure out how to do it i will post a few pics.

You suppose to. 13 fish will spike everything, nitrite etc, and kill most of the fish or leave you with very stressed out fish.

14 days isnt bad. I cycled a tank in 1 day. But that was using old things...
