So I have a new 110 litre tank and want to put some fish in it. The fish that are going in there are:

4 Blind Cave Fish
4 Volcano Rasboras
5 Columbian Tetras
3 Pearl Danios
2 Opaline Gouramis

These are the fish out of my 80 litre which I'm making into a Livebearer community tank. (Mollies, Guppies and Platies)

Then the options to add into the 110 litre are:

2 Angelfish
4 Green Tiger Barbs
4 Neon Rosy Barbs
2 Red Dwarf Gouramis
4 Madagascan Rainbow Fish

Which ones would/n't work? Or do people have other suggestions?

Thanks. :)

I'd say you want to up the number of all the shoaling fish (Tetras, Danios, Rasboras) to at least 6 of each species, and then get a couple of centrepiece fish like the red dwarf gouramis you mentioned, or perhaps a dwarf cichlid like laetacara curviceps. I'm not sure about stocking density, but at a push you might be able to squeeze in a shoal of a corydoras species to liven up the bottom. Personally I would remove all the shoals but your favourite, make that shoal big (10+), get some bottom feeders, and get a centrepiece fish/pair.

By the way, angels are a big no-no for anything smaller than 200 litres.

Sam!

Barbs in general have a reputation of being "fin nippers". Especially tiger barbs... Not all are more often than not they will be.

As stated above I'd also say no to angela in a tank of that size. I'd say no less than 3 feet long, 18 inches high and maybe 12 inches wide.

I wouldn't advise putting dwarf gourami in with the Opaline gouramis either. opaline gourami (also known as blue gourami and three spot) are one of the more aggressive types and gouramis don't tend to mix too well with their own kind. I had an opaline and a gold in a 180 litre and they hated each other. I ended up rehoming both and getting the more peaceful pearl gourami.

As opaline gouramis get to around 4-5 inches I would say you are already pretty well stocked for a 110 litre. If it was my tank I would rehome the gouramis and tetras, up the number of rasboras to around 15 and then get 3 dwarf gouramis (2 females, 1 male)

Hmm. I'm thinking of growing the angelfish in the tank and then when they get to a decent size move them into my dad's 7ft tank and see how they get on in there.

What I might do is buy some more columbian and blind cave tetras to make them bigger shoal, then get a pair of dwarf gouramis and see how they get on with the opaline gouramis.

Personally, I don't really want to rehome fish, I was trying to work out which fish would go with my current fish.

So this may be a case of expanding the shoals, rather than getting new speices.

For an Angelfish to potentially grow into it's more natural, bigger self then it would need the room to do so now, your fathers' tank being a perfect home for some... it would be a no-no for a 110L stocking... i was also advised against it with my current stocking, or which can be seen in my signature... i like to think it is more a peaceful, community set-up, something you won't get with the Barbs you mentioned (Five Banded Barbs are a beautiful, more 'mellow' fish if that's what you would consider).

Terry.

Keeping your original stock as it is and then adding more is just going to leave you overstocked and with complications that can otherwise be avoided. You are running the risk of having stressed out fish and also a stunted fish if you were to get the angels or even a single angel.

As stated by "Taffy Apple" Angels need the room to grow and a 110 litre is simple too small even though you mean well and said you could move it to a 7 foot later on. By then the fish could already of become stunted due to the small tank size, meaning the fish will no longer grow on the outside but inside its organs will continue to grow leading to deformity :(

That aside I do hope what you decide to do goes well for you :good:

I wanted to backup the suggestion for five banded barbs, or pentazona barbs as I know them. I had a nice shoal and they looked beautiful in my community tank. They were very peaceful, but interesting to watch. My tended to flit around in my plants and hover in the middle of the tank.
