ok here's the tank:

Here are the two mollies that are helping me convert from fresh water to brackish water, as advised by CFC:

After the conversion these two will go into a plain 10g with only a few bushy plants and be a breeding pair (I hope) and a figure 8 will move in.

yeah they're airbubbles that picture was taken less then 5 minutes after I set it up. thanks for the nice comments. Can't wait to get the puffer in there though (probably 3 weeks-month)

awesome tank, I was looking for a SA puffer but I can't find any around here, so I settled for going brackish and having a fig. 8 instead. I can't wait till this tank is converted and I get him.

Thanks, it looks much better now I have upgraded the lights, only had one tube on it in that pic, got two now.

I think you will be better of with the F8 as the SAP's teeth are a problem, will need to look at trimming mine in a couple of months :S .

The dude has a few tanks so I'm sure he used media from another tank or something. This being his 3rd tank, I'm sure he either did that or used a filter he was running on another tank. But yea, nice pics all the same. I was told it would be difficult to maintain a BW tank of that size. Why is that?

Same with marine and to a certain extent FW, stability of water conditions, the bigger the tank the less impact something like uneaten food has. Also eveporation can change the salinity as salt does not evaporate with the water.

You put Mollies in 10 minutes after setting up the tank....? *Sigh*
no bunji the first picture w/ the airbubbles was 10 minutes after the setup (notice no filter in the photo because it was hanging on the back of my 20g tank) the molly picture was 48 hours later. The filter on the 10g has been in use for 2 months now so no worries. I am not THAT new at this stuff.

Yeah, the salinity does change with evaporation, but because most brackish fish live in areas where fresh water and salt water mix, they are well-adapted to small changes in salinity. As long as you keep the water levels within ~1 cm of the norm then the salinity change will be insignificant.

I'll probably end up topping it off daily with freshwater (since salt stays and water leaves) I did my first water change with brackish water today (just added salt to the new water) so we'll see how long it takes for the tank to get to the sg of the tank at my LFS. I can't wait :).
