Hi. I bought the 29 gallon Top Fin starter kit. I am not using the heater right now because I have 2 goldfish. I want to do tropical sometime later though. But all it has is a + and - sign. No temperature indications.

bad heater then, and you wouls have to go till you see the temp on the temp indicator strip or whatever u using is were you want it, i would suggest taking it back and getting a diff on but if you dont want to or that is not an option let it sit for an hour in the water, than every 4-6 hours i would turn it a little more till its were you wnt it to be and moniter it constantly then take a sharpy and mark were the temp you want it ruffly on the plus and minus

I had a heater like that, what I did is (without any fish in the tank) turn the heater up to full and then monitor the water temp until it reaches the desired temp. Then slowly turn the dial down until the heater clicks off and your temp is set! You might want to then leave it 24h or so and then fine tune it if need be

Buy a tank thermometer?

Then you can get a good idea what the tank temp is. Wait for it to become accurate after a couple hours, then slowly adjust accordingly. It's surprising to have something like that with no temp settings on it!
