I am currently cycling my 48 litre tank. I have got dsome bogwood soaking outside to wich I am going to attach some Java Fern as I have read it is ideal for a begineer.

I would like a floating plant & maybe one or two more on the floor of the tank, any suggestions?

Please bear in mind that I am a total novice.

You can't go wrong with Vallis, Amazon Sword Plants and maybe a Dwarf Anubia

I have been reading some more & it seems that plants are a whole lot of work in themselfs. I think I will leave them untill I am confident with my fishkeeping.

Honestly it doesn't really make it easier or harder. I started about 6 months ago fishkeeping and with plants and I'm glad I did both.

It makes the fish happier and helps with the overall quality of the water. As mentioned above, attach some anubias and java fern to the driftwood and see how it goes. you'll find that those only really require fish waste and light. Start out at about 4-6 hours of light daily. No ferts or co2 additives are needed for them. Never had experience with vallis but I have been trying to get some and from what I've read, they are just as easy and they make a great background.
