10 Gallon Tank Fish Options, Dont Know What To Put In Tank

hi,

I want to buy a new fish tank in the coming days, and i am thinking of including the following combination of fish in my 10 gallon/40 litre tank (cost 100 euro with everything(heater filter etc.) is that a good bargain?):
2 angelfish
5 guppies (any sort)
1 cory cat or armano shrimp
2 tiger barbs
1 dwarf gourami
1 platy

is this an good fish combinations or does anyone have a better suggestion + what does the term cycle mean for an aquarium?

I recommend reading all of the topics on cycling that are their to give you a good grasp of what it all means as it isn't anywhere near as complicated as it sounds!

To comment on your actual stocking list...
What is a moonfish? Can you get me a picture or it's latin name. Or at a guess did you mean the 'moonlight gourami'?

5 Guppies - Sounds fine, though in such a small tank stick to all males if you can

1 Cory Cat - Need to be kept in groups of 4/5+ and for a tank that size I personally would stick to pygmy corys, but you could get away with some of the smaller normal sized corys eg. Panda(not in a newly cycled tank) or Sterbai

1 Amano Shrimp - Again I would keep them in a group of 4/5 if you want to ever see them. I think they'll be ok alone...just wont be out much.

2 Tiger Barbs - Really should be kept in groups of 5 or more to spread out agression and stop it being taken out on tank mates.

1 Honey Gourami - Would be fine in a tank that size

1 Dwarf Gourami - May be cramped in a 40l, but if kept alone (with no other gouramis) should be ok.

1 Platy - A good size for the tank and a good temprement aswell

If you could answer my question above and give a new 'possible stocklist' taking into account my suggestions (And perhaps reading the article on fish for a 10gal) I will be happy to comment again

100 euros is a lot, unless you are getting everything with it (heater, filter, light)

-monos (moonfish) are not a good idea. they get to big for a 10g and are difficult for beginners
-guppies would be great, just be prepared to start giving fry away
-one cory would need pals, shrimp would be ok, so long as you dont get tiger barbs (which will eat them)
-tiger barbs need a bigger tank and a large shoal. 2 would rip each other to pieces
-honey or dwarf gouramis would be fine. honies are harder to keep, need good water conditions. A pair of dwarfs would be better
-a single platy would be ok, but 3 would be cooler

It sounds like you are into colorful fish. Here is my reccomendation:

-1 dwarf gourami (having a 2nd might cause agression)
-3 to 5 platies (any color strain)
-4 to 6 shrimp (amano or otherwise)

and cycling is explained well in other threads and articles. Go to the biginners resource center and look at the cycling stuff:

yeah the moonfish i meant angelfish except everyone always said moonfish to me... nd the cory cat, i had an aquarium before and it did fine alone...also what is a good alternative for a tiger barb?

Alternatives in what sense? Check out the '10 gal fish' list in the beginners resource centre.
And I suggest you come back with a better idea of more suitable fish (it's much easier to comment on proposed stocking as we don't know what you like).

An example being...
5 x Male Guppies
2 x Honey Gouramis (Red Robin or Normal Variety)
5 x Pygmy Corys
4 x Chery or amano Shrimp

Or

5 x Male Guppies
1 x Dwarf Gourami
2 x Platy (both male or both female)
5 x Pygmy Cory
4 x Cherry or Amano shrimp
