I'm going to make my 10 gallon quarantine tank into a little planted nano with some small fish and some shrimp. I've never had such a small tank.
Here's what I was thinking:
- Sand substrate
- Low tech
- moderately-heavily planted
- Not yet sure of lighting - will happily take recommendations.
- Shrimp - type yet to be decided. Maybe CRS. I know that to really do a successful shrimp tank they are alone, but I just want the adults to be left alone. If they have enough cover for some babies to survive, that's just a bonus.
- Fish - I was thinking:
Clown killis (6?)
Celestial pearl danios or Emerald dwarf rasboras (6-8?)
Scarlet badis (2)
Asian Stone/Dwarf Moth catfish (Hara jerdoni) (1-3? I read they like buddies also)
I feel like this might be overstocked.
Would you stick with the badis OR the CPD/EDRs or could I do both?
Other question is for filter - what would you all recommend? With the shrimp I know people use sponge filters. Would a sponge filter be enough? Do I do a baby canister filter? I know the killis don't like a ton of surface movement so the HOB is probably not the greatest idea.
Other question is re: little plants. What have you all used that actually stays small for low-tech small tanks? I know I can prune but there must be some that are more well-suited size-wise.
Thanks in advance for any advice or input you have for me!
