I'm just considering all my options. Would setting up a 10 gal. brackish aquarium be recommended? Also are they a headache to maintain.

Could someone with little experience successfully take care of one of these?

not very hard as long as you can keep the SG stable

Thanks.

I might give it a shot. When you say I should be committed to checking my levels, what levels are you refeering to?

SG as water evaporates you will need to top off. to keep the SG the same

if you have a lid on then you shouldn't get too much evaporation anyway. The fish won't mind the gradual increase in salinity and it will be too slow to harm the filter's bacteria.

Buy a hydrometer or refractometer (I think that's how it's spelt) and make sure that it tests for all salinity's 1.001 - 1.025 and everytime that you do a water change test the water and make sure that when you replace it that it is within 0.002 of the lot that you took out so that the filter bacteria doesn't die off.

Use marine salt - not aquarium salt.

Not difficult at all.
