Here's a picture of me and my girlfriend's 10 Gallon Painted Turtle tank. It houses our juvenile Eastern Painted Turtle.

Two questions:

1. Do you know how big Eatern Painted Turtles grow to?
2. You do know how big Chinese algae eaters get, right?

Yes, we know how big the turtle will get. It's only a temporary setup. He was rescued. Right now (due to school bills) we cannot afford to buy a whole new setup. This summer we plan on upgrading to a larger tank.

As for the algae eater, he was in there temporarily. I haven't changed my signature in about a month and a 1/2. He's not in there anymore. And yes, I do know how big they get.

I do an extensive amount of research on any fish/animal I aquire or buy.

Well, that's good then. The thing is, people don't usually advertise that they're keeping their turtle in a ten gallon, even if they say they know what they're doing.

Good to hear that you actually research before buying an animal, unlike some people I know... Just remember, 1inch of the turtles size for every 10gallons of water...

Actually, the "10 gallons for every one inch of turtle" rule is vastly outdated, and has been for quite some time. There is very heavy filtration, the water is changed weekly, the gravel is washed, and everything is scrubbed to rid algae.

Forgive me, but my girlfriend and I are not advertising that we keep our turtle in a ten gallon tank, we are simply showing you the tank our tiny little turtle is because we are so excited to have him and we are proud of the tank. Obviously, he will need a bigger tank much sooner rather than later, and we have plans to do that ASAP. As for knowing what we are doing, I am certainly not saying we know everything, but we do know more than enough to more than sufficiently provide for our turtle. Of course there is still stuff we need to learn, and we will. But doesn't everybody have more to learn?

Nice little tank you got there :good:

But on a side note, if you knew so much about them, and what there needs are,
Then why would you buy him only to put him in a tank thats far too tiny for him,
knowing you wont be able to upgrade for a while?

Dont get me wrong, I admire the fact that you've already got a tank planned out

well the tank looks good, glad your proud, im sure your turtle will have a happy long life :)

We did not buy him. We rescued him from a pool at work. He was a classroom pet for a while (i work as a kindergarten teacher), and when my boss told me we could not have him anymore, i asked to take him home.

We will upgrade soon.

Cute little guy in there.

I like turtles, About a year ago my girlfriends aunt gave us 2 red eared sliders. She said she never saw them and didn't want them anymore. They were in a 10 gal tank and maybe 2" long and I was shocked to hear she had had them for over a YEAR!.

Well, been about a year now, and I've been looking to upgrade the 4 footer for at least a 6 foot tank... growing like weeds.. and such great personality...

In my classroom, we had two Eastern Painted Turtles (including ours) in a 10 gallon tank. They were only in there for a few months. They really do have personality to them. Every time i go near the tank, our turtle comes up to the glass and frantically swims into it. He does it every time i go to feed him too. Yet, when you try and pick him up, he runs for cover. lol. My parents seem to like them alot too.

My Eastern Painted Turtle does the exact same thing.

Once, when I was watching him he did the franitc swimming against the glass, and my friend came up. I pointed to the turtle and kept my finger there for a few seconds, and he tried to bite my finger through the glass (the turtle, not my friend :D). The problem was, he was trying to bite me and swim at the same time, and ended up biting himself!!!

Nothing serious, I don't think he even felt it, but it was hilarious. :D
