i am starting a 10 gal. but i don't know what plants or fish to put in. i was thinking some java fern and java moss with anubias (is that how you spell it?) species along with some pygmy cories, neon tetras, zebra danios, or glowlights or black neon tetra, or any other combination that has fish that are hardy. thanks for your advice. :)

Pygmy Cories are OK as long as you get a few
Neon Tetras would need to be in a group of 6 or more and would require a larger tank. A mature tank at that
Zebra Danios are very fast swimmers requiring a larger tank and like to be in groups.
Glowlights (I assume you mean Tetras as there are many species with a glolight variety) as per Neons. shoaling and swimming space.
Black Neons I assume the same as above.

Have a look through the fish index at the beginning of the forum and see what you can find in there then post in the tropical discussion section to get a decent opinion on your findings. You may find fish you want for your tank that are compatible with your tank size but not with each other.

Good Luck

hi i know what u said about the zebra danios but i had a friend that had a spawning and couldn't keep and decided to give them to me. i put them in my 10 gall but i feel bad becuz u said that they need more space. I wanted to put the corys, ghost shrimp, white clouds, and maybe adf. can i still put some in there or not? what can i do with the danios? will they be okay? i sorry for all the questions but i am a newbie at this. thanks for your all your help!!

how many danios first of all, and as long as you have a nice current in the tank, preferably a spraybar, they should be fine if there isnt too many for the tank size, danios will eat shrimp, and there isnt gonna be room for any of the other fish or the frog really, plus whiteclouds and danios like temperate water (18 to 22C) whereas most cories like tropical water, i keep mine at 26C, the main thing is you dont overstock, too little is always better than too much.

there are6 and they vary in length. the filter gives a good current i guess. so you are saying that i could only have white clouds along with the danios? i also have another question: when the tank is cycled and has plants in them you don't have to perform water changes as frequently than with a fish only tank?

you could only have those danios and 6 is a push, its ok as long as you have a nice filter, get a spray bar or airpump going too, i do a 50% water change weekly on my high tech planted tank, i think it would be good to keep up your water changes with that ammout of fish in a small tank, but the fish will certainly enjoy the plants.

i had a tank, about 30 litres (i think thats 8 uk gallons) where i had goldfish and 6 danios. They were fine in there, and seemed quite happy. I had Java Moss for plants as it was ok in cold water. The filter current was quite strong i suppose. I have since moved them to a 90 litre tropical tank though. Maybe you could start off small and have a bigger tank in future... :good:

in the tank i have java moss and java fern so i am trying to start out small and hopefully in the future i might get something like a 29 or 50 gallon tank...hoping ^_^ and i do sometimes have an air pump in there... i guess i should always have it in there...

a 30 litre is far too small for even 1 golfish, any goldfish needs 20gals for the first fish then an extra 10 gals for every one thereafter, fish fanatic you should be fine just dont add anymore fish, you dont have to run an air pump all the time, at night would be good then it wont affect the plants.
